Board of Assessors Declares $153,000 Overlay Surplus

CHELMSFORD — Board of Assessors backs $154K veterans' exemption increase for Spring Town Meeting vote. Veteran's Agent Regina Jackson requested the Board's support for raising Clause 22 Veterans' Exemption from $400 to $820 and Clause 22E (100 percent disability) from $1,000 to $2,000, affecting 237 eligible veterans. Chairman Samuel P.

Chase and member Michael R. Donoghue indicated support, stating the Board will back placement of a warrant article on the 2026 Spring warrant, with the increase amounts to be determined by the Town Manager within FY27 budget constraints. The Board also declared a $153,000 overlay surplus for commercial and industrial property valuation.
