Commission approves landfill test pit work

Chelmsford Conservation Commission unanimously approves landfill test pit project. DPW Director Christine Clancy presented the regulatory request to clear trees and install up to 10 test pits on the 40 Swain Road landfill cap, capped in the 1990s. Test pits, dug to 1 to 5 feet, will gather groundwater monitoring data required under state solid waste regulations, with work expected within 30 to 60 days.
The Commission approved the Request for Determination of Applicability with Negative 2 and Negative 3 Determinations, unanimously 7-0, with conditions including erosion control inspection and notification to the Conservation Agent. The Commission also reorganized, electing Chris Garrahan as Chair effective March 24 and Peter Spawn as Vice Chair.
