Conservation Commission · Meeting of September 8, 2026

Chelmsford Conservation Commission approved a water main extension allowing contaminated-well residents to connect to public supply, voting 5-0 (with member Marc Gibbs recusing) to grant Stop & Shop Supermarket Company a determination of applicability for work extending the water main from Brook Street up Summer Street to Billerica Road. The wells were contaminated by dry cleaning compounds allegedly from Paramount Cleaners. The approval included conditions requiring submission and approval of pipe bridge plans and work sequences before start, with work expected to begin next spring.

The Commission also declined to approve an off-trail orienteering event at Thanksgiving Forest Reservation, citing ongoing ecological restoration and risk of damage to unmapped sensitive plants.
