CHELMSFORD — Conservation Commission holds Freeman Lake for 30-day review following Diquat treatment. Residents Wanda Dunn and Allan Beede presented photographs of declining native Pickerel Weed; Water and Wetlands officials, including DPW Director Christine Clancy and Town Engineer Courtney Thompson, attributed stress to drought and temperature extremes rather than the herbicide, noting DEP compliance. Conservation Agent David Koonce outlined four options: no action, independent survey, Enforcement Order, or monitoring; the Commission voted unanimously to revisit conditions at its August 11 meeting.
The board also approved drafting a wetland-regulations brochure for new homeowners and received a Planning Board report on zoning hearings and state housing legislation expected to impact local conservation bylaws.
