Finance Committee · Meeting of February 26, 2026

CHELMSFORD — Finance Committee votes on minutes, hears FY27 budget presentations. The committee approved the February 12 meeting minutes six in favor, one abstention. Fire Chief Gary Ryan presented a $7,748,513 FY2027 operating budget with staffing at 63.5 full-time equivalents, noting that Stations 3 and 5 will close April 1 for rebuilds lasting approximately 18 months, with the new facilities including geothermal heat pumps and solar arrays.

Superintendent Jay Lang presented a $78.15 million school budget, a $2.5 million increase, as a level-services proposal that maintains programs and staffing while anticipating a $300,000 revenue credit from Valley Collaborative and a $425,000 decrease in special education tuition costs. District enrollment grew 60 students year-over-year, with Lang identifying additional staffing as the primary unfunded priority for future growth.
