CHELMSFORD — Permanent Building Committee advances fire station construction and reviews major school projects. Chair Tim Powderly and the committee heard that Engine Station 3 and Engine Station 5 demolitions are complete, with a proposed aluminum siding change expected to save $117,000 to $150,000 in project costs; however, asbestos at Station 5 has halted that site's work pending remediation. DPW Director Christine Clancy reported that solar panel reinstallation across state projects is delayed until late summer 2027, affecting $50,000 to $60,000 in annual energy generation at South Row School and McCarthy Middle School.

The Parker School building project, estimated at $272 million with a potential 58 percent MSBA reimbursement, will advance to a ballot initiative on February 9, 2027, following a Special Town Meeting on January 11, 2027.
