Library Trustees approve revised reference service policy

Library Trustees · Meeting of January 14, 2026

CHELMSFORD — Library Trustees approve revised reference service policy without new staffing. The board unanimously backed the updated 2.7 Reference Service Policy, which introduces librarian appointment reservations and emphasizes barrier-free access. Library Director Lesley Kimball reported that FY27 budget documents were submitted to the Town and that the library is pursuing a level-service budget under town direction, with no new positions added.

Strategic internal reductions will be evaluated to maintain high service levels while addressing budget pressures. New Assistant Director Julie Iatron was introduced, bringing 12 years of trustee experience from Tyngsboro and a background in community engagement and underserved populations.
