Select Board names Finance Director as interim Town Manager; approves six DPW projects

CHELMSFORD — Select Board appoints Finance Director John Sousa as Acting Town Manager and approves six DPW bid awards. Sousa will receive an additional $1,500 per payroll period until a new permanent Town Manager is hired or six months pass, whichever comes sooner. The six DPW projects total $934,083.50, including roof replacements at McCarthy Middle School and Center Elementary for a combined $192,000, drainage improvements for $374,314, and Heart Pond ADA improvements for $133,372.
The Board also unanimously voted to support special legislation providing injury leave compensation to Firefighter Nicholas Spinale, placing him on administrative leave with full pay effective immediately while awaiting legislation passage.
