Select Board votes to hire Alex Magee as town manager.

Select Board · Meeting of July 6, 2026

CHELMSFORD — The Chelmsford Select Board unanimously voted to appoint Alex Magee as Town Manager, selecting the Arlington deputy town manager over Hudson's Thomas Gregory in a same-day interview process. Magee, a Westford resident with 14 years of municipal experience in Lowell, Hamilton, Arlington, and Andover, impressed the Board by walking away from a competing job offer to pursue what he called his dream position in Chelmsford. Board members highlighted Magee's existing relationships with town staff, including Police Chief Christine Clancy, and his financial expertise as critical assets during the transition.

The five-member Board voted unanimously, with Chair Pat Wojtas and Vice Chair Jeffrey A. Hardy supporting Magee alongside Clerk David R. Boisvert, Board Member Aaron D.

Cunningham, and Board Member Jon H. Kurland. Acting Town Manager John Sousa did not express a preference.

Chair Wojtas stated she would contact both candidates following the vote and indicated that contract negotiations would begin immediately, with Board Member Cunningham joining her at an HR meeting the next day to set employment terms for review by town counsel.
