TREE Committee · Meeting of June 10, 2026

CHELMSFORD — The Tree Committee scheduled a virtual contractor review for June 15 to discuss scope, timeline, and details for a Tree and Invasive Species contract, with Tree Warden Christine Clancy, Peter Spawn, and Ian Farley attending. The committee reported that Redbud trees from the 2026 front yard planting program are not thriving and may need replacement, and noted that a Kousa dogwood at Town Common has died and will be removed and replaced in the fall. Tree loss continues on private and town property, particularly along the new Water Main right-of-way and at 1 Smith Street; Clancy is working to minimize removals and arrange replacements.

New initiatives under consideration include pursuing grant funding for open space and Tree City applications, exploring tree protection options with the Conservation Commission and Planning Board, a pilot Weed Warrior volunteer program, and signage replacement at Wright Reservation.
