CHELMSFORD — The Chelmsford Zoning Board of Appeals approved an addition at 16 Hitchinpost Road but stalled two other cases over notice and design problems. The board granted Gary Baker, representing owners Charles and Madelaine Needles, a special permit for a 37-foot front setback where 40 feet is required. A sign variance for Waypoint Community Church at 301 Boston Road was continued to November 5 after board members found the published legal notice described a nonexistent setback issue rather than the church's actual request for a second sign.
At 1 Brush Hill Road, owner Francine Inman sought an addition to house her 89-year-old mother, pleading, "I am pleading with you just to maybe make this one exception where I can bring her home." Abutter Alan Waja objected, calling the plan "an invasion of my privacy," and the board continued that case to November 5 as well. A Chapter 40B case at 243 Riverneck Road, covering 23 units with 6 affordable, was continued without discussion while the town appeals a state safe-harbor ruling.
