School Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026

Chelmsford School Committee learned the Parker Middle School rebuild will use a geothermal heating and cooling system, chosen partly to unlock added state and federal energy grants. The committee unanimously approved three fiscal 2027 budget transfers totaling $117,489, including $82,302 for teachers' lane-change raises and $18,062 for a custodians' COLA increase. Superintendent Dr.

Jay Lang reported enrollment holding steady and said student transportation has grown to 3,574 registered riders on 29 buses. Members gave first readings to new Protect Act and artificial-intelligence policies, with votes expected next meeting. "It's really important that it's broad enough that we still allow AI use to come in in the future when we're ready for it," said committee member Susan.

A special town meeting on the Parker project is set for Jan. 11, with a debt-exclusion vote Feb. 9.
