Chelmsford schools ranked top 15 percent in academic outcomes while spending in the bottom 15 percent statewide, a financial review found. Consultant Joe Costello of District Management Group told the School Committee the district spends $18,641 per pupil versus a $21,371 Merrimack Valley average, with 73 percent of 10th graders meeting MCAS ELA expectations compared with 51 percent statewide. The committee adopted a new artificial intelligence policy and a law-enforcement interaction policy under the state's Protect Act, shifted a February professional-development day to accommodate a Parker Middle School special election, approved $5,940 in budget transfers, and raised part-time tutor pay from $35 to $40 an hour.
Resident and retired Army Sgt. 1st Class John Moses urged the board to seek a posthumous promotion for Lt. Col. Moses Parker, saying "right is earned, and getting it right is part of the honor." Superintendent Dr.
Jay Lang said the financial report gives the district "very solid footing" heading into its next five-year strategic plan.
