Chelmsford School Committee backed a January 2027 town meeting and February 2027 debt exclusion vote for the Parker Middle School rebuild. Superintendent Dr. Jay Lang said delaying past that window could add $2.8 million to $4.1 million to the project and push groundbreaking from fall 2028 into 2029.
The 5-0 roll-call vote followed the Parker Building Committee's own unanimous recommendation. The committee also closed out a $75.65 million fiscal 2026 budget, fully spent and encumbered, after moving $3,872,891 into its special education circuit breaker reserve and prepaying $1.855 million in out-of-district tuition. Finance staff reported fiscal 2027 Chapter 70 aid landed $51,750 above budget at $16.278 million.
Harrington Elementary's kindergarten enrollment jumped to 108 students, "necessitating a fifth section," officials said.
