School Committee · Meeting of August 18, 2026

Chelmsford School Committee adopted a physical restraint policy and set new athletic court rental rates in a 4-0 roll call vote. Superintendent Dr. Jay Lang told members the Select Board approved a January 2027 special town meeting and a February 2027 special election on a debt exclusion for the Parker Middle School rebuild, pending a Massachusetts School Building Authority vote expected in December.

DM Group consultant Maggie presented a special education time study showing teachers spend "relatively consistent" time with students since 2023, with Lang noting "70 percent is the most we're ever going to get" given contractual limits. Member Dennis flagged a 14 percent data gap in speech-pathologist figures, while member Maria pushed to fold rising special education needs into the next strategic plan "sooner rather than later." New facility rates run $20 per court section, up to $120 an hour for all six high school tennis courts.
